Truenaming is a rare and esoteric art, even among spellcasters. It relies not on wielding the flow of leylines, the favor of aegises, or the hidden powers of the mind, but on warping the universe directly by speaking the ancient language of Truespeak. Unlike other forms of spellcasting, this is based on skill checks and can be used an unlimited number of times per day. At their best, truenamers can bypass the most stubborn obstacles with no chance of enemy resistance. At their worst, they stumble over their own words as they attempt displays of power far beyond their ken. In a party, a truenamer can fill nearly any role she is bold enough to attempt, with particular emphasis on knowledge and supportive spellcasting.
The archetypical truenamer is a wandering scholar with a wide breadth of practical skills and knowledge. They use the dependable utility of truenaming to explore the world and seek to categorize everything they see. In a party, a truename scholar can fill nearly every role to some extent, though they prefer to stay away from the front lines of combat.

Truenamers have the ability to speak utterances, powerful phrases of Truespeak that can alter the world in ways similar to arcane spells. The truenamer begins play knowing a single 1st level utterance and gains access to additional utterances as indicated on the table above. Whenever the truenamer learns a new utterance, it may be of any level up to the maximum utterance level for that level, as determined by the truenamer's Truespeak skill. The table above gives values for a single-classed truenamer who takes maximum ranks in Truespeak every level.
At 3rd level, and every 3 levels thereafter, the truenamer may choose to "forget" one utterance she knows and replace it with another utterance of the same level.
The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a truenamer's utterances is 10 + 1/2 the truenamer's level + the truenamer's Charisma modifier.
A truenamer knows her own truename. When using utterances that affect herself, the Truespeak DC is equal to (10 + character's HD).
At 2nd level, and every 8 levels thereafter, the truenamer gains a permanent +3 bonus to any one Knowledge skill. Each time this ability is gained, it may be applied to a new knowledge skill or to a previously selected one.
By altering her inflection while speaking, a truenamer of 4th level may increase the Truespeak DC of any utterance by 5 to double its duration. This ability must be declared before the roll is made.
At 6th level, and again at 14th level, the truenamer gains a recitation feat as a bonus feat. She must meet the prerequisites of the feat.
Starting at 8th level, incredible practice allows the truenamer to speak at an incomprehensibly fast rate. The truenamer may speak any utterance as a swift action by increasing the DC of the Truespeak check by 10. This ability must be declared before the roll is made.
Keen utilization of the grammar of Truespeak allows a truenamer of 12th level to adjust her utterances to affect multiple creatures at once. A group of creatures to be affected by a single utterance must all be of the same type (humanoid, dragon, animal, etc), must all be within 30 feet of each other, and the Truespeak DC of the highest DC creature in the group must be used. Each additional creature affected beyond the first increases the DC of the Truespeak check for the utterance by 2.
Whenever a truenamer of 16th level activates a recitation feat, she may activate a second recitation feat as a free action.
At 20th level, a truenamer develops a version of her own personal truename - a true nickname of sorts - that is instilled with great power. When this truename is spoken by another, the truenamer becomes aware of who spoke it and approximately where it was spoken. The truenamer may then choose to appear at the speaker's location as if taken there by a Word of Recall spell. Speaking this simple truename does not require a Truespeak check.
A warrior-poet is a truenamer who uses Truespeak to be better at combat. Though certainly skilled and knowledgeable, they tend to be more focused than academic truenamers. They trade some versatility for increased toughness and better use of combat utterances.
