Sometimes called mushroom folk or truffles, elusinians are humanoid creatures with fungal characteristics. These mushroomy features vary wildly - some look like gnomes with big mushroom caps on their heads, while others are unsettling masses of fungal branches. Most tend somewhere towards the middle and look like stubby humanoids with mushroom cap heads and fluffy "accessories" made of their own spore-rich mycelium.
Elusinians tend to stand from 4 to 7 feet tall and weigh anywhere from 100 to 400 pounds, with taller individuals usually being lanky and light. They reach maturity at two years old, before which they are immobile buds, and may live up to 500 years. Elusinians may coincidentally resemble male or female forms, but they are all biologically genderless.
Elusinian culture is dominated by their hive mind. As they get older, most elusinians feel an increasing draw to join with their kind in the Elusinian Collective in western Synan, surrendering all autonomy to become hosts of the Collective's dominating spores. Those few who refuse to give up their free will are shunned by their people as traitors and troublemakers. While some elusinian adventurers are sent by the Collective for various missions, most are exiles trying to find their place in a world that considers them disturbingly alien.
Elusinians are monstrous humanoids. Spells that target only humanoids, such as Enlarge Person, do not work on elusinians.
Elusinians can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and elusinians can function just fine with no light at all.
Elusinians gain a +4 racial bonus on saving throws against poison, sleep, paralysis, polymorph, stunning, and mind-affecting effects. Whenever an Elusinian is struck by a critical hit or a sneak attack that would not affect a plant, there is a 25% chance that the effect is negated and that the damage is instead rolled normally.
An elusinian naturally recovers a number of hit points per hour equal to the elusinian's class level.
Elusinians cannot process life energy like most races can. They recover half as many hit points as normal from magical and supernatural healing effects. In the case of effects that grant fast healing, the healing only happens every other turn rather than every turn.
