Lyderan halflings are the most common sort - small humanoids who seem to posess a nearly supernatural calm. They are short, with large hands and even larger feet, both of which are usually quite hairy. They tend towards fair to tanned skin tones and have curly hair ranging from straw blond to very dark brown. Though their features tend to be rounded and their ears large, they are not so disproportionately large as those of a gnome. They rarely wear jewelry, and piercings and tattoos are nearly unheard of for them.
Most halflings stand between 3 and 3 1/2 feet tall, with males generally on the taller end and females on the shorter end. Men weight about 40 pounds and females weigh about 35 pounds. Halflings reach adulthood at 20 years of age and live up to 120 years.
Lyderan halflings are simple folk who enjoy simple lives. They have historically been quite fond of their military allies, usually the merfolk and the dwarves, as they greatly prefer farming to combat. Halflings, when not found on the outskirts of the cities of dwarves or humans, tend to live in small agricultural villages. While a natural humility makes them accepting of nearly anyone, they often fall to the wayside of history and have been historically vulnerable to those who would enslave and exploit them. This remarkable lack of ambition means that those few lyderan halflings who adventure do so because of something happening to displace them from their homes.

Alderian halflings are significantly rarer than their lyderan kin. Like other halflings, they are short, with large hands and even larger feet, both of which are usually quite hairy. They are often quite pale, with reddish or brownish hair that tends to be wavy. Men tend to grow long beards that are slightly darker than the hair on their heads, but otherwise they share the same characteristics of other halflings.

Alderian halflings are nearly extinct, with only a few known settlements of them left in eastern Alderia. Their towns are secluded and insular, prefering to stick to their own. Where Lyderan halflings are known for being a bit naive, the culture of Alderian halflings has been scarred by a violent past. Individually, Alderian halflings tend to have an unbridled wanderlust, though culturally they can come across as standoffish.
