Xephs are psionically empowered humanoids with an alien appearance. They have earthy skin tones, often in a range of dull browns with greenish undertones. Their faces are long and angular with wide and solidly-colored eyes. Only some xephs grow hair, and those that do often shave it to a single long ponytail.
Xephs generally stand around 5 feet tall and weigh around 110 pounds. Females tend to be lighter than males, but not noticably shorter. Xephs reach adulthood at around 20 years of age and can live to around 100 years old.
Xephs are native to Lyder, where they often settle in the company of their ancestral allies, the dwarves and halflings. They are filled with a natural wanderlust and artistic passion, but their culturally carefree nature has been tempered somewhat by a tragic history. Xeph stories tell of a bygone time, before the Divine War, when they were free in their ancient true home. In the millennia since, they were hunted to near extinction by orcs, duergar, and a legendary tyrant known as the Wing Emperor. Nowadays, xephs tend to be skittish and rarely venture outside of their underground homes - certainly not alone, at least.
Xephs gain 1 bonus power point per level.
Xephs can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and xephs can function just fine with no light at all.
+1 racial bonus on saving throws against powers, spells, and spell-like effects. Xephs have an innate resistance to psionics and magic.
Three times per day, a xeph can put on a burst of speed to increase her speed by 10 feet, plus 10 feet per four character levels beyond 1st, to a maximum increase of 30 feet at 9th character level and higher. These bursts of speed are considered a competence bonus to the xeph’s base speed. A burst of speed lasts 3 rounds.
