Clairvoyance
Clairvoyance is the art of sensing with the soul, using careful arcane projection to glean information from beyond the physical world. The mages who master this art can detect objects without sight, track people over great distances, read past events, and even glimpse into the future. Clairvoyance is often met with superstition, and it is exceptionally rare to find a truly skilled practitioner of it - usually because unreliable fortune tellers tend to be hunted down by those whom they offend. Still, nearly every great figure in known history has sought council with an Oracle at least once.
Utility
Because of the vague nature of how Clairvoyance works from a gameplay perspective, and how much it may vary from one Game Master to the next, the abilities listed are very sharply defined - especially in relation to how they level up.
Foretelling
Read the future of a creature, area, or object. First, select a level of detail from the table below, picking one of Vague Idea, Glimpses, Sight and Sound, or Experience and Knowledge (described below). Then, make a Soulpower/Soul Casting roll of difficulty 5, increased to 6 if the caster is not in silent and stationary meditation. The time frame you are able to foretell is then taken directly from the table, consulting the column that corresponds to the level of specificity selected and the row that corresponds to your Roll Result, so long as it does not exceed your Rank.
You suffer Drain equal to your roll result minus your ranks in Clairvoyance.

Vague Idea
- You can sense overall emotional tones or overarching themes.
- Examples: "A great evil is approaching this place," or "This sword is somehow lucky."
Glimpses
- You get momentary flashes of dull sensation.
- Examples: "You hear the clatter of steel and sense a distant chill as you look over the field," or "Creaky cart wheels will soon track over this road."
Sight and Sound
- Full scenes play out before you like actors on a stage.
- Examples: "You see a hooded figure lean over the crown and pour drops of a strange liquid along its edges," or "You witness fey creatures of brilliant colors parading over the rolling hills, their beautiful songs mixing into a grand harmony."
Experience and Knowledge
- You witness and understand complete events, including relevant context.
- Examples: "General Anderhold will soon barge through the door, carrying with him grave news of a recent ambush," or "An assassin of the Starblade Order will soon descend upon this place, slipping past the castle walls by the aid of a forgotten Archmage."
But what is the future, really?
When gleaning the future, it is important to note that it's not really the future. Clairvoyance allows for the scanning of possible futures; it blends the results of millions of fragments of realities that might be. That is to say that such readings, though accurate, are not absolute. The actions of certain key figures - usually the player characters - tend to throw off predictions the most.
Scrying
Seek out a person or an enchanted object. Roll Soulpower/Soul Casting and consult the Roll Result table to determine if you are able to track the item. The difficulty of this roll is 6 for targets that you have only seen in passing, 5 for targets you are somewhat familiar with, and 4 for a target you are intimately familiar with, such as a close friend or a family heirloom. Then, consult the second table below to determine how much detail you see based on how far away the target is. For instance, with a Clairvoyance score of 2, you would be able to point out the general direction of an object within 5 kilometers, and know the general location of an object within 1 kilometer.
This ability causes 5 Drain. If this ability is used again on the same target within 24 hours, it causes 2 Drain instead.
Roll Result | Power of Item |
---|---|
1-3 | Legendary magical artifact, Archmage |
4-6 | Strong magical item or large deposit of magical material, creature with Soulpower 6 or higher |
7-9 | Magical item, living soul |
>10 | Magically concealed item, deceased body or soul |
Ranks | Direction | Location | Condition |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 1 km. | - | - |
2 | 5 km. | 1 km. | - |
3 | 25 km. | 5 km. | 1 km. |
4 | 100 km. | 25 km. | 5 km. |
5 | 500 km. | 100 km. | 25 km. |
6 | Nearby Dimensions | 500 km. | 100 km. |

Reading
When trying to discern the history of a person, place, or object of legendary or arcane significance, you may roll Soulpower/Academics instead of Intellect/Academics, and you may add your ranks in Clairvoyance as a flat bonus to your roll result. Using this ability causes 1 Drain.
