Professional
"Don't charge for the cost of the sword; charge for the cost of the forge."
- Goblin saying
Background
Professionals are characters that grew up with a trained job. Most will have been apprentices, be that to a blacksmith, a painter, a scribe, a stonemason, or any other kind of skilled worker.
While professionals are a broad category and thus hard to generalize, they do tend to have more stable lives than most. Their in-demand skills tend to keep them well-fed and out of poverty. Finding a professional willing to adventure, then, usually means that something major has happened to uproot that stable life.
Features
- Select a trade skill to be your Profession.
- Some other skills can be selected as professions with Game Master approval. These include Agility (for a gymnast), Demolition (for a sapper), and Conditioning (for an athlete). Other skills should not be chosen as professions, either because experience can never eliminate the risk of failure or because other classes suit them better.
- Skill rolls for your Profession automatically succeed if the difficulty is 3 or less.
- Exceptional cases may sometimes apply at the Game Master's discretion, such as for opposed checks. In such cases, your dice pool is doubled for the roll.
- Skill rolls for your Profession cannot critically fail.
- You begin play with extra money. Instead of the standard 1 platinum (100 copper), you begin play with 2 platinum (200 copper).
