Scholar

"Do not mistake my meaning here; my fellow Archmages are far stronger than I, especially in my old age. Had I not studied every tome I could hold from the day I learned to read, I would not have earned my place as the most respected member on this council."

- Archmage Cassian A. Vindelton, responding to critics of his position

Background

Scholars hail from lives filled with knowledge. Access to books, legends, experts, and artifacts fills the scholar's mind with useful information and a natural fluency for using it.

Not all scholars are librarians or students. Many are travelers, even those who do not travel for knowledge. Bards and minstrels can pick up exotic legends in their travels and speak with wide ranges of experts, and even an innkeeper who grows up listening to the stories of travelers may pick up a surprising amount. Most people who develop a passion for knowledge can find a place to get it, and even those who don't may find themselves nonetheless thrust into a position where they must learn to keep up. For these reasons, there are few generalizations that can be made about scholars as a whole.
